PHILADELPHIA, PA. – MARCH 17, 2014 – The Philadelphia 76ers today announced that Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Hartnell will receive the Sixers “Heroes Among Us” award this Friday, March 21 when the Sixers host the New York Knicks at the Wells Fargo Center at 7:00 p.m. The #hartnelldown Foundation will receive the net proceeds from the Sixers’ 50/50 raffle that night.

Scott Hartnell will be in attendance to accept the award on the Wells Fargo Center court during the third quarter, first timeout during the game.

“It is an honor to be receiving the Heroes Among Us award,” said Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Hartnell. “Thank you to the Philadelphia 76ers organization and their SIXERS STRONG program for acknowledging the #hartnelldown Foundation’s efforts, not only in Philadelphia, but across the country. This has been such a fun project, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of Philadelphia fans.”

Hartnell created the #hartnelldown Foundation in 2012 to help children across north America stay physically active and healthy by providing scholarships for students to attend hockey camps. Hartnell recently published a children’s book, the proceeds from which benefit the #hartnelldown Foundation.

The Sixers “Heroes Among Us” award is given at every Sixers home game to adults and children who are working to make a positive impact on the lives of children, and is given in the spirit of Alex Scott, who founded Alex’s Lemonade Stand to raise funds and awareness to end childhood cancer. The award is a key component to the team’s SIXERS STRONG community programming, which focuses efforts entirely on improving the life trajectory of children in the Philadelphia area.

To nominate an individual or group for the Heroes Among Us award, fans can fill out the form found on the Sixers’ website at: www.sixers.com/HeroesAmongUs.

Tickets are available for this and all other Sixers home games at SIXERS.COM, by phone at 215-339-7676 or in person at the Wells Fargo Center box office.
